[an error occurred while processing this directive] The industry experience project capstone unit gives students the opportunity to research contemporary approaches to system development and develop new skills, as well as applying the knowledge and skills they have already gained, in the delivery and development of an IT solution to industry standards designed for use by business clients. During this process students are expected to reflect on these concepts and theories in order to analyse why they are necessary for a successful outcome. The students work in self managed teams Throughout this process students will need to communicate effectively (interpreting and evaluating what effective communication means) to a range of stakeholders. This includes analysing and synthesising information gained, as well as producing and presenting outputs to professional industry standards. Students will present, in relevant and innovative ways, findings to academics and peers as well as project based stakeholders and industry experts. The students attend unit seminars, carry out research individually and contribute in a professional, committed and collegial manner to the work of their team and to their studio peers.
It is highly recommended that students enrol in FIT5122 Professional practice in conjunction with FIT5120. FIT5122 Professional practice has been designed specifically so that students will benefit from this unit whilst taking FIT5120.

Monash is committed to excellence in education and regularly seeks feedback from students, employers and staff. One of the key formal ways students have to provide feedback is through the Student Evaluation of Teaching and Units (SETU) survey. The University’s student evaluation policy requires that every unit is evaluated each year. Students are strongly encouraged to complete the surveys. The feedback is anonymous and provides the Faculty with evidence of aspects that students are satisfied and areas for improvement.
For more information on Monash’s educational strategy, see:
www.monash.edu.au/about/monash-directions/ and on student evaluations, see: www.policy.monash.edu/policy-bank/academic/education/quality/student-evaluation-policy.html
The unit was run for the first time in semester 1, 2015 and as such, no changes have been made yet, in response to feedback, however if you wish to view how previous students rated this unit, please go to

Submission must be made by the due date otherwise penalties will be enforced.
You must negotiate any extensions formally with your campus unit leader via the in-semester special consideration process: http://www.monash.edu.au/exams/special-consideration.html
It is a University requirement (http://www.policy.monash.edu/policy-bank/academic/education/conduct/student-academic-integrity-managing-plagiarism-collusion-procedures.html) for students to submit an assignment coversheet for each assessment item. Faculty Assignment coversheets can be found at http://www.infotech.monash.edu.au/resources/student/forms/. Please note that it is your responsibility to retain copies of your assessments.
Please check with your lecturer before purchasing any Required Resources. Limited copies of prescribed texts are available for you to borrow in the library, and prescribed software is available in student labs.
The studio environment provides a large array of software and hardware for students to use within the studios. Anything additional is to be negotiated between the student teams and their supervisors. FIT will not normally provide additional hardware or software.
Students must regularly check Moodle for current information.
