[an error occurred while processing this directive]This unit will give the students an opportunity to solve some concrete decision-making problems, such as resource allocation and investment planning, using different ways of modelling and solving decision support problems of different size and complexity; strategic, tactical and operational problems; problems involving discrete alternatives and problems involving continuous variables; problems whose constraints and goals are precise and problems which need to be further pinned down. The students will be introduced to a high level problem modelling and solving platform which is supported by a variety of solvers. They will use the platform to model and solve some quite complex decision support problems and experiment with different solvers, and search methods.
2 hrs lectures/wk, 2 hrs laboratories/wk

Monash is committed to excellence in education and regularly seeks feedback from students, employers and staff. One of the key formal ways students have to provide feedback is through SETU, Student Evaluation of Teacher and Unit. The University's student evaluation policy requires that every unit is evaluated each year. Students are strongly encouraged to complete the surveys. The feedback is anonymous and provides the Faculty with evidence of aspects that students are satisfied and areas for improvement.

To pass a unit which includes an examination as part of the assessment a student must obtain:
If a student does not achieve 40% or more in the unit examination or the unit non-examination total assessment, and the total mark for the unit is greater than 50% then a mark of no greater than 49-N will be recorded for the unit
a) Quantitative problem solved using Excel - correctness of model and solution.
b) Demonstration of understanding of topics; evidence of literature review in chosen topic; illustrations and/or demonstration of techniques in report; analysis of readings and referencing of articles/papers related to topic.
Assignment coversheets are available via
