Faculty of Information Technology Buddy Program

Faculty of Information Technology Buddy Program

About the FIT Buddy Program

The Faculty of Information Technology Buddy Program is designed to create a welcoming environment for new IT students. The program will assist new students to settle into the faculty and make friends with students from their course. Mentors will use their experience and knowledge to guide new students through the first six weeks of their course. The program includes fun activities, starting with an Amazing Race on Orientation Day and a BBQ at the end of the program. The program and activities are a great opportunity for participants to make friends and to broaden their social networks.

Note: Please submit feedback for this program if you participated in Semester 1, 2009 to help us improve the program for next semester.

Peer Mentors

Mentors will enjoy the satisfaction of helping others and learn professional skills such as working in a team and communication strategies. Mentors can be local or international students. The program includes leadership training and certificates.

Requirements

Becoming a Buddy Mentor is available to any IT student (second semester and above) based at the Clayton or Caulfield campus. All mentors are expected to attend the required training dates as well as group mentor meetings and social functions.

Mentees (New Students)

Mentees will benefit from having someone they can ask questions and advice as well as meeting new friends through the broader social program. Mentors have experienced the transition to life at the Faculty of IT and know how it feels to arrive in a new place. We will do our best to place mentees with a mentor from the same course.

Requirements

Mentees can be any new IT student at the Clayton or Caulfield campus and are required to meet their mentor for one hour per week for six weeks.
