Maxine decided to transfer to Bachelor of Business Systems* after her first year at Monash University studying the Bachelor Digital Systems. Her main reasons for the transfer were the very attractive scholarship, the two industry placements and the ideal combination of technical and non-technical units.
Maxine’s first placement was at IBM Australia as a program administrator in Sales & Distribution, which involved a high level of responsibility, independence and client interaction. For her second placement, she took on the role of an application developer at Southern Health, which broadened Maxine’s technical skill-set. At the time Southern Health was a new industry partner of the Bachelor of Business Systems industry-based learning (IBL) program, and Maxine was the first student to complete an internship at the Monash Medical Centre in Clayton. The two placements at IBM and Southern Health were completely different in working environment and job roles, which allowed Maxine to gain a better understanding of the variety of career avenues that she could pursue.
In 2006, Maxine was rewarded for her outstanding academic and placement performance via the Cliff Bellamy Award for the top final year Business Systems undergraduate student.
“The industry placements allowed me to gain a vast amount of business acumen and knowledge in many facets of IT that could not have been learnt from textbooks alone. It is because of this experience that I stood above the crowd, especially during graduate recruitment.”
Maxine is currently working as a Graduate Security & Privacy Consultant at IBM Australia on a multimillion dollar project for Australia’s largest telecommunication service provider.
* The Bachelor of Business Systems is the previous form of the Bachelor of Business Information Systems .
