Faculty of Information Technology Equity Bursary for Women in IT - 2006

The Faculty of Information Technology has made available 3 First Year Equity Bursaries for Postgraduate studies in 2006. Total value of each bursary is $6,000 each. Payment of $3,000 per semester for 2006 only. Bursaries will apply to the following courses:

Please note: You must submit an application for one of the above courses to be eligible for this bursary.

Students may choose to exit the program with the Graduate Certificate after successfully completing four specific units, or with the Graduate Diploma after completing eight specific units.

Eligibility criteria

  • Commencing local female students only - Australian or New Zealand citizen, holder of an Australian Permanent Resident Visa or an Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa
  • Females who have had a significant break in study (who have been out of the educational system for a considerable period of time – 5 years minimum) and intending to study in Information Technology
  • Meet minimum entrance requirements for courses available to the first year bursary
  • Must meet the established equity criteria as determined by Monash University .

Selection process

  • The Scholarship Officer, in conjunction with the Student Equity & Access Branch representative will apply the equity income level test to all eligible applicants
  • The Academics will merit rank the applicants who satisfy the equity criteria based on the submitted previous academic records of the applicants
  • Other priority attributes, such as professional experience, will be applied to distinguish between applicants who have equal equity and merit claims
  • The Scholarship Officer's recommendations for the scholarships will be presented to the Registrar for review and approval, before proceeding to the Admissions and Credit Transfer Sub-Committees

Establishing student merit

  • There is expected to be a substantial variety in the academic background of applicants for the bursary
  • In order to rank the merit of applicants fairly, the equity needs of the individual applicant and the results which they received in their previous course, will be included as part of the ranking procedure
  • Merit shall be ranked into bands by a panel including two Academics representing the Schools of the Faculty and the Scholarship Officer, according to the following levels:
    • High Merit
    • Medium Merit
    • Low Merit
  • Students will be ranked from 1 to 4 or 1 to 8, etc.
  • Should any potential recipient (ie. those ranked in the top 4 or 8) not accept the scholarship, then the next highest ranked applicant will receive the scholarship offer as appropriate.
