First female graduate from the School of IT at Monash South Africa
08 March 2005
Zulayka Ameen, the first female student to Graduate from the School of Information Technology at Monash South Africa , received her Bachelor of Computing degree at a ceremony held on the Monash campus last week.
Zulayka, who attended the Dr.Yusuf Dadoo Primary School and Ahmed Timol Secondary School, in Azaadville, first found out about Monash in her Grade 12 year when two representatives from Monash South Africa visited her school.
"I was very fortunate to be awarded a bursary to study at Monash South Africa," says Zulayka. She chose to study towards a Bachelor of Computing degree because she had always been interested in computers: "I guess also because at the time it seemed to me that everything in the world revolved around computers. I also didn't want to study in an area that would require me to write lengthy essays."
Zulayka has thoroughly enjoyed her time at Monash South Africa: "What I enjoyed most was meeting new people and making new friends. At the beginning Monash South Africa was a small campus and everyone knew everyone. I have met some really wonderful people and developed many great friendships." |

"The teamwork project during my degree was a challenge and a very exciting experience," says Zulayka. During the third year of study, IT students at Monash South Africa complete an Industrial Experience Project in a workplace environment. They are presented with a real problem and have to produce a real workable solution for the client.
When asked about her plans for the future, Zulayka said she would like to pursue a career in software engineering, programming or database management. "I hope to work for a company where I can establish myself and develop a career path. Once I have developed my career I would love to further my studies."
